Knights Pee Wee Major 'AA' splits weekend games

The Amherst Knights Pee Wee Major "AA" hockey team completed a roller coaster weekend with a loss and victory.

Saturday's exhibition game at the Rochester American's home rink resulted in a 6-1 loss.

The Knights' only goal came in the first period by Christian Curatolo assisted by Nick Kowalski.

On Sunday, the Knights corrected all mistakes to generate a 4-3 win over their division foe from Webster. Goaltender Thomas Styn earned the victory and participated in Amherst's first goal scored by Derek Aichenger with assists from Kowalski and Styn.

The Knights' second goal tied the game and came via the power play by Brad Ferrell assisted from Curatolo.

In the third, the Knights took the lead with a goal by Joe Todaro with assists from Sam Kraus and Aichenger.

One minute later, Webster would score off a fluky ricochet goal with 4:40 left. Amherst took the lead at the 2:53 mark as Aichenger scored the game winner and his second of the day after he stole a defenseman's clearing pass and riffled a shot past the Webster goalie's glove hand.

The Sunday win puts the team at 2-1 in league play. Their next game will be Nov. 26 when they host Bud Bakewell.
