UB rugby loses in quarterfinals

The University at Buffalo rugby team, ranked No. 1 in the New York State Rugby Conference, lost to Harvard, 27-25, in the Northeast Rugby college playoffs at UB Saturday. It was the first time a rugby match had been played under lights at UB.

The Mad Turtles, ranked No. 9 in Division I, outscored the Crimson five tries to four but missed all of their conversions.

Harvard took an early 10-0 lead.

Freshman wing Ian Edwards scored two tries for UB in his first start. Senior Damian Skaros added a single.

Heading into the game, UB, won all seven games and outscored their opponents 256-27. In four of their games, the opposition scored no points. This season UB played Cornell twice, winning 44-16, and 8-3. They beat Syracuse University, 23-8.

Williamsville North High School graduates Matt Dennis and Mike McGuire play for UB.
