Mauro achieves rank of captain in Navy Lance Mauro of Williamsville has been promoted to the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was recognized during a recent ceremony. Mauro enlisted in the Navy as a seaman apprentice in 1977 and after three years of active duty was honorably discharged. He then joined the Naval Reserve. Assigned with the Reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 13, Charlie Company, he also attended the University at Buffalo, graduating in 1985. Mauro was recalled to active duty in 1994 as the transportation and supply officer of Navy Excess Material Team Europe, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, in support of the armed forces draw down in Europe. Through his efforts, the Navy and Marine Corps saved more than $50 million in out-year procurement costs by his screening of heavy construction and tactical equipment from the Air Force and Army due to European base closings. With several assignments, Mauro also achieved his Master's of Science degree in administration from Central Michigan University. He was again recalled to active duty in 2004 to support Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as the Central Command Deployment and Distribution Operations Center Senior Sea Service cell chief and administrative officer. Returning to the reserves, he currently serves as the chief of staff for the Defense Contingency Support Team staff headquarters and oversees a staff of 90 joint reserve and active duty personnel. He has received the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various service awards and citations. He also holds the designation of Seabee combat warfare specialist. In addition, Mauro is a life member of the Naval Reserve Association and Reserve Officers Association, deputy commander for logistics of the New York Naval Militia region III, president of the WNY Naval Reserve Association and executive vice president of the Naval Reserve Association third district. |
