Assault rifle found in vehicle during traffic stop

Amherst Police Officer Nick Scioli, assisted by Officer Tim Carney, has arrested a man who reportedly possessed an automatic assault rifle in his vehicle.

Buffalo resident Basheer H. Cross, 30, was stopped by police at 9:17 p.m. Friday near 1951 Niagara Falls Blvd., for tinted windows and driving suspiciously.

After questioning the suspect, police searched the vehicle and found quantities of marijuana and crack cocaine, according to the report.

Police said that on the floor of the passenger side of the vehicle was an Intertec automatic assault rifle, which is illegal to possess. A magazine with bullets was also in the case.

Cross was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of a narcotic drug, a C felony. He was also charged with criminal possession of a narcotic with intent to sell.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a D felony, as well as operating a vehicle with obstructed vision and for having the tint on the windows too dark.
