Satish K. Tripathi of Amherst, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University at Buffalo, has received an honorary doctor of science degree from the Indian Institute of Information Technology Allahabad in Allahabad, India. Tripathi was a guest speaker about information technology and the value of education to the individual as well as society.

St. Leo the Great School, 903 Sweet Home Road in Amherst, recently received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program. Dan and Sue Knoll, who own the Mobil station located at 3005 Niagara Falls Blvd., worked closely with school administration to secure the grant. The money has assisted the school with the purchase of new computer and technology equipment.

The Town of Amherst will receive a donation from Elm Research Institute of disease-resistant American Liberty Elms in the 2005-2006 calendar year under the Liberty Elm Grant program. Donated trees are planted in public places in a city or at a university or school.

Amherst Meals on Wheels raised more than $2,000 at its pancake brunch held on Oct. 23 at the Amherst Center for Senior Services. The Brunch, hosted by Amherst Meals on Wheels' Board of Directors, was sponsored by Northrup Grumman. Amherst Meals on Wheels serves approximately 200 homebound, elderly or handicapped residents every weekday.

Daemen College's planned Center for Information, Research, and Community Programs building received a $40,000 grant from Assemblyman Jim Hayes, which was presented to former Amherst town supervisor and Daemen College Board of Trustee Lynn Millane, and Daemen President Martin J. Anisman.

TNT Productions, based in Amherst, will be producing the The Lancaster Opera House's presentation of Miracle on 34th Street for 14 performances. Amherst Fashion Designer and Amherst Woman Of The Year, Eve Klipfel designed the costumes.
