Amherst homecoming
     The surprise October snowstorm that hit Western New York last month forced the cancellation of homecoming activities at Amherst Central High School. The traditional dance was rescheduled for last Saturday night, complete with the crowning of the king and queen.

Kadimah celebrates 'birthday'
     Kadimah School of Buffalo will celebrate its "First Year Birthday Bash" with a community celebration that includes magic, ice cream sundaes, and a raffle drawing at which one student will win a limousine ride from Advantage Limousine, to school with Headmaster Jeff Schapiro.

St. Joseph Collegiate Institute names scholars
     Sixteen Amherst residents were among 46 students from St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute to earn the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program exams.

Summer reading certificate awarded to 125 students
     Assemblyman Jim Hayes, R-Amherst, issued certificates of merit to 125 students who successfully completed his 2006 Summer Reading Challenge Program. Children who read independently, or with a parent, for a minimum of 40 days during the summer for at least 15 minutes per day qualified for this honor.

     Students of Project Lead the Way engineering program at Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center placed second in the Great Pumpkin Farm's Trebuchet Contest for their medieval trebuchet design.
