Red Wings win season opener Amherst Hockey's Pee Wee Red Wings had an impressive 6-2 win over the Bruins on Saturday in their season opener. In the first period, with the Bruins two men down, Brian Bookbinder opened the scoring with his first of three goals, receiving a pass from Matthew Hyer. About a minute later, Andrew Kreppel connected with Nicholas Noe for the Wings' second goal. Dylan Cottrell scored for the Bruins with 37 seconds left in the first period to make the score 2-1. In the second period, both teams played strong defense. Joshua Gidwitz, Brent Crawford, Nate May, William Tunkey and Frank Menza were very strong on defense for the Wings. Hyer and Bookbinder connected again for Bookbinder's second goal. Jacob Griebner was stellar between the pipes for the Red Wings. Cottrell's second goal of the game brought the Bruins back within one in the middle of the third. The Red Wings then exploded with three quick goals. One goal came from Shaun Baranyi, followed by Bookbinder and Noe from Hyer. |
