Walk the Villages wrap-up celebration rescheduled

Originally scheduled for Oct. 14, the surprise October storm forced the cancellation of the Walk the Villages Wrap-up Celebration.

The event has been rescheduled to be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Clarence Town Park in the Clubhouse building, 10465 Main St. in Clarence.

State Senator Mary Lou Rath (R,C,I - Williamsville) sponsors the free, community based walking program in Akron, Batavia, Clarence, Kenmore, LeRoy and Williamsville. Since June 1, hundreds of Western New Yorkers have been 'walking the villages.' The program encourages people to walk their own community and then explore neighboring communities on foot.

"Walk the Villages has been such a success," said Rath. "Expanding the program into Genesee County allowed for greater participation and created a wonderful community interaction all across my Senate District. Our upcoming wrap-up celebration will be an opportunity to share our experiences and award our most dedicated walkers with some terrific prizes from our local business community."

The wrap-up celebration will feature prize giveaways, music and refreshments.

"In addition to giving people a fun and interactive way to exercise, Walk the Villages has helped local small businesses that rely heavily on foot traffic for first time customers," said Dick Rich, Walk the Villages Coordinator. "I look forward to meeting this year's participants and beginning the process of planning for next year."
