Our children need this educational resource to shape their future. Find the funding to keep the library open! .The village looks great! Wow, the streets are getting cleaned. Nice job, Mayor Lowther! .Since Friday, the 13th, the Town of Amherst looks like a war zone with all the trees destroyed, cellars flooded, fences down and homes damaged. Certainly property values have decreased. I have received three higher property reassessments in the last five years. Am I now going to have my assessment lowered, or am I just dreaming? Fair is fair. How about it, will my assessment be lowe re d ? .I hate to see summer over, but thank God that lawn spraying is done for the season. People must be informed of the dangers of pesticides and how detrimental they are to humans and animals. Pesticides are poisons; they cause nervous system damage, cancer and a lot of other health problems. Please, think about the impact these pesticides have on your neighbors, children, animals and yourself. Organic treatments are safe and just as effective, and won't harm anyone. Next spring, think about the dangers of pesticide lawn sprays. .I agree, the emergency service guy did a great job! Make sure he gets a bonus. .The village highway guys really did a quick job. Looks good. Thanks for your help! .I like Dr. Smith's decision on re-opening the Williamsville schools April 12-13, and maybe the April 10-11. Nice going, Dr. Smith; I agree with you! .I totally disagree with some of the readers that O'Loughlin, Ward and Kindel should take a hike. They are phenomenal! We need stronger people on the board. Also, the Village of Williamsville volunteer firemen are phenomenal! We have a precious one; his name is Danny, and he's wonderful to our senior citizens. I don't know your last name, Danny, but go for it! .When will the government get out of the staff's way and let them do their work? Bob Anderson was right there, knew what to do, but then the supervisor stopped it all. .We residents at Robin Road Housing lost power at 9:45 Thursday. We did not have a backup generator for the community room where residents could gather for heat and fix food in the kitchen. But on Friday morning, there were residents bringing food, boiling water on the outdoor grill, carrying hot coffee to residents who were not able to get to the community room. Due to the cold building and because our halls in the daytime were pitch dark, we residents believe that our building is not up to code, as there should be backup emergency lighting. Who should we contact about this? .I am very upset with our supervisor for not putting the Williamsville library in his budget. Does he realize how important it is for everyone in this town? I'm a senior citizen and can no longer afford to buy a new best seller, but can certainly go to the library and ask to borrow one and read it. He should be ashamed of himself! .I think the staff at the Amherst Senior Center should be highly commended for the great job they did opening their doors and taking in all the seniors during the recent storm. I hope in the future that if something like this happens again, the youth department will get on board and open their doors and take in some of the kids. It would have been great if the kids had a place to go, to get out of their cold houses, just to play games and be supervised and give the parents a break so they could clean up their basements. .All 11 points in the assessor's report in The Bee may have some validity, but no matter what assessments increase or decrease, we still get stuck with higher taxes. We have had continual assessment changes over the past six years, which is ridiculous. Something is amiss in the assessor's office if assessment changes take place in such a short period of time. .I can't believe that the town of Amherst would ever approve a site plan that would put a huge brick wall and loading dock facing Transit Road as they did with Kohl's. It's the most awful site on Transit Road. .I don't know who's in charge of what streets getting the debris cleaned up first. It would seem to me that if the dead trees and limbs, which were the biggest factors in preventing electric, phone and cable companies from getting to homes to restore their services, should have been done first. I live in Eggertsville; my street has been done. This is Oct. 27 and I just drove through Snyder and was appalled at the way the trees are piled. Those people pay the highest taxes and that's how they are t re a t e d ? .Upon reflecting on the recent storm, I'm wondering if anyone now questions the need for the three additional police officers. The present force did an excellent job ensuring our safety, but I am sure they felt they could have used some extra help. A special thank you to all of you. .If the Williamsville School District and Dr. Smith think that parents are going to send our kids to school for two days during Easter break, they are wrong. We have plans and we are not canceling them. Why don't you try canceling staff conference days? |
