Election day decides representatives
.Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Residents in the Town of Amherst have some decisions to make on their next congressman, assembly member and senator. Although Amherst has no town races this year the votes cast on Nov. 7 for the above mentioned positions can prove just as important.

Incumbent Rep. Thomas Reynolds, R,C, is being challenged by Jack Davis, endorsed by Democratic, Independence and Working Families parties. They are running for the 26th district of the U.S. Congress.

For the seat in the 61st district of the New York State Senate, incumbent Mary Lou Rath, R,C,I is being challenged by Richard L. Woll, D.

Incumbent James P. Hayes, R,C, for the 148th district of the New York State Assembly is being challenged by Susan J. Grelick, D, WF.

There are several statewide and countywide races also on next Tuesday's ballot.

Incumbent U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has the endorsement of the Democrat, Independence and Working Families parties.

She is being opposed by: Roger Calero, Socialist Workers; Howie Hawkins, Green; K.T. McFarland, Jobs & Security; Jeffrey T. Russell, Libertarian; John D. Spencer, Republican, Conservative and Right to Life; and William Van Auken, Socialist Equity.

George Pataki is not seeking re-election as governor. Candidates are: John Broderick, Right to Life; John Clifton, Libertarian; Maura DeLuca, Socialist Workers; John Faso, Republican and Conservative; Malachy McCourt, Green; Jimmy McMillan, Rent is Too Damn High; William E. Murawski, Voice of the People; and Eliot Spitzer, Democrat, Independence and Working Families.

Six candidates for attorney general will be on the ballot. They are: William T. Conroy Jr., Right to Life; Andrew M. Cuomo, Democrat and Working Families; Christopher B. Garvey, Libertarian; Martin Koppel, Socialist Workers; Jeanine Pirro, Republican, Conservative and Independence; and Rachel Treichler, Green.

In the race for state comptroller, six candidates are seeking election. They are: John J. Cain, Libertarian; J. Christopher Callaghan, Republican and Conservative; Willie Cotton, Socialist Workers; Michael Cronmiller, Right to Life; Alan G. Hevesi, Democrat, Independence and Working Families; and Julia Willebrand, Green.

Two candidates are seeking election to New York State Supreme Court, 8th District. They are: Timothy J. Drury, Democrat, Conservative and Working Families; and Timothy J. Walker, Republican and Independence.

In the race for Erie County court judge, two candidates are on the ballot. They are: Douglas Warren Marky, Republican; and Michael L. D'Amico, Democrat, Conservative, Independence and Working Families.

Erie County clerk candidates are David J. Swarts, Democrat, Conservative, Independence and Working Families; and Shelly Schratz, Republican and Family First.

Voters will also consider a local law amending the Erie County Charter.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Erie County Board of Elections may be reached at 858-8891.
