Sports briefs Due to the storm, Week 3 of Buffalo In-line Hockey Group's fall/winter season was canceled. League action will start again on Saturday, Oct. 21. New players are always welcome. Tryouts for the league's tournament teams in all age groups will also be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Players do not need to play in the league to try out. Emily Warren, a graduate of Amherst Central High School and a freshman starter for Mercyhurst College, scored her first college game-winning goal along with an assist, in the team's 5-0 win over Seton Hill University on Sept. 28. Amherst Skating Club's Amanda Gordon and Danielle S h a ff e r placed sixth and ninth, respectively, in the junior ladies competition at the 2007 North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships held from Oct. 9 to 14 at JSB Ice Arena in Jamestown, N.Y. In results from Oct. 14, Danielle Trubish won girls freeskating and placed third in beginner compulsory moves. In juvenile girls group 1A qualifiers on Oct. 12, Brooke Sinatra was ninth, Emma Sinatra was 11th, Gracie Clauss came in 14th and Avery Steadman was 17th. Jennifer Zhang was fifth in juvenile girls group 1B qualifiers the same day. In intermediate ladies group 1A qualifiers on Oct. 11, Caitlin Riegel was 12th and Rachel Cromwell was in a three-way tie for 15th place. Chelsea Gill and Alyssa Penizotto were 11th and 12th, respectively, in intermediate ladies group 1B qualifiers the same day. Tryouts will be held each day from 9 to 11 a.m. (14 years old), 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (15 and 16 years old), 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (12 years old) and 5 to 7 p.m. (13 years old). The Canisius College baseball program will be holding winter baseball camps for ages 9 through high school from November through January at the Koessler Athletic Center, 2001 Main Street. An elite hitting camp will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 and 18 and Dec. 2 and 9, an elite pitching camp Dec. 27-28 (overnight), a three-day hitting camp on Sunday, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 and 11 and a three-day pitching camp on Saturday, Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 and 10. A coaches clinic will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, 8. 15 and 29. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.
