Traffic study requested for Main Street

State Sen. Mary Lou Rath, R-C-I - Williamsville, has asked the New York State Department of Transportation to initiate a traffic study on Main Street in Williamsville.

In a letter to DOT Regional Director Alan Taylor, Rath stated that traffic problems on Main Street in the village have "now escalated to unacceptable conditions," and she requested an immediate study to find solutions to alleviate the problems.

"Anyone who lives, works, or travels through the Village of Williamsville knows how terribly congested traffic on Main Street has become," Rath said. "This is not just an issue during the morning and evening rush hour but throughout the day."

She added, the congestion is creating frustration and is potentially dangerous as people make reckless driving decisions in an effort to move as quickly as possible.

In the letter to Taylor, Rath also voiced concern that Main Street business owners are fearful of losing customers because of the difficulty in getting in and out of lots and parking spaces. Rath suggested that the timing of the traffic signals along Main Street may need to be adjustedto alleviate the congestion.
