The Haunted Fortress offers eerie tour

One of the most common questions asked about Old Fort Niagara is, "Is the fort haunted?"

Visitors to the fort on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28, will find out when spirits from the past will appear during "The Haunted Fortress," a nighttime fund-raiser that benefits the fort.

Activities take place in the darkened and frightening corridors of the "French Castle" (c. 1726), and throughout the historic site where guests will encounter some of Old Fort Niagara's "permanent residents." Attendees will also be able to tour the historic Fort Niagara Cemetery.

Participants should wear footwear suitable for walking outdoors, dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight.

"The Haunted Fortress" is for adults and older children. It is not recommended for children under 8 years old, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Tickets to the hair-raising event are $10 per person, and are available by advance sale only by credit card by calling 745-7611.
