Five schools report break-ins

Amherst police are investigating two additional school break-ins reported last week.

In addition to reports at Heritage Heights, Smallwood and Maplemere elementary schools, police were called on Oct. 3 to Sweet Home Middle School.

Assistant Chief John Askey said the suspects entered through a construction area sometime between 2:30 and 4:30 a.m. A staff member reported that $161, cigarettes and prescription medication were missing.

Police were also called to Park School on Harlem Road at 8:20 a.m. on Oct. 3 where computer equipment was missing. The report states that sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 and 8 a.m. Oct. 3 someone entered the school and took $1,500 in computer and electronic equipment.

"There were five school break-ins in a span of a couple days and we are continuing to investigate them," Askey said. "Some may be related."
