U.S. Army Field Band to perform Saturday

The Volunteers of the U.S. Army Field Band will be performing in Amherst several years after its last visit to the town.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at Williamsville East High School, 151 Paradise Road, East Amherst.

The Volunteers are one of four separate performing groups that makes up the U.S. Army Field Band. They are called the Musical Ambassadors of the Army.

The group of five musicians tours the United States performing rock n' roll, pop, rhythm and blues and patriotic style music. They last performed in Amherst in the early 1990s

and have performed in all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Belgium and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Anne E. Schiferle, director of recreation, said the U.S. Army Field Band is a great program that she has been working on providing to the community again for more than two years.

A representative from the Volunteers said, "They proudly carry their unique message of goodwill and patriotism in the language of contemporary popular music to audiences across the nation and around the world."

Sgt. Major Parris Spivey, a native of Buffalo, will be among those performing.
