EXCEL aid discussed

     Last April, the Amherst Central School District received $964,000 in new supplemental aid called EXCEL (Expanding our Children's Education and Learning). How the district can use that aid was the main topic at the Oct. 3 Amherst Central Board of Education meeting.

     Forty-six students at Amherst Central High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams.

Wilderness adventure develops leadership skills in students
     Students from Williamsville's Casey Middle School took part in a leadership camp at Houghton College on Sept. 29-30. Twenty-five, seventh and eighth grade students, plus 11 staff members, traveled to Houghton for 24 hours of programming that focused on enhancing leadership skills.

Conference educates about cyber threats, online victimization
     The University at Buffalo has teamed with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's New York Branch to take action by hosting an Internet safety conference for future educators on cyber bullying and online victimization.
