Farber Lane water line improvements started; residents may be affected
by JILL SCHMELZER Reporter

C. Destro Development began the replacement of the waterline at Farber Lane on Sept. 11 and expects to complete the improvements by Nov. 10.

The waterline runs under Farber Lane, Lake Ledge Drive, Ledgeview Terrace and Bobby Lane in the Village of Williamsville.

To date, the general contractor has completed the installation of the temporary above-ground water service line, according to Bob Lannon, one of the village engineers.

This includes a temporary water service line for residential usage and the temporary domestic and fire supply for Williamsville South High School.

The contractor has also begun excavation of the old main line at each end with simultaneous installation of the new main line, Lannon said in an e-mail.

Throughout the course of the nearly two-month project, the residents of the area will experience approximately four short interruptions of water service for interconnections of the system.

Those who will be affected will receive advance notice, Lannon stated. Minor traffic interruptions are also localized at the point of excavation.

Temporary fire service to the school is of comparable capacity to the original service. However, if a fire were to break out in the residential area, pumpers would be needed to connect water from Main Street hydrants, officials said.

Upon completion of the water main improvements, the entire road will be resurfaced and paved, Lannon said.
