The River Region will be overtaken by straw-stuffed characters when the Scarecrow Expo is held Oct. 7-21 on the streets of Lewiston, Youngstown, Sanborn and Ransomville.
During the event, local businesses are being challenged to create their own interpretation of the traditional scarecrow for display outside of their store or restaur ant.
"The purpose of this event is to have people travel from main street to main street to view the scarecrows and while they are there to browse our shops, dine in our restaurants and enjoy a leisurely fall day in the country," said Sandy Hays-Mies, president of the Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce.
There will be plenty to see and do during the Scarecrow Expo. In addition to scarecrow gazing, visitors can stop by one of the region's roadside produce stands or pick their own, stargaze in the orchards from the bay of a hay wagon, treasure hunt in antique stores, tour a winery or take away plenty of homemade treats.
In Lewiston, the scarecrows will be featured along Center Street, along Main Street in Youngstown, on Buffalo Street in Sanborn, and near the intersection of Route 93 and Ransomville Road in Ransomville.
