Albany internships available for 2007 session

Applications are being accepted for the New York State Assembly session and graduate internship programs for 2007.

"College students will gain first-hand experience of the Albany legislative process while taking part in the internship program. Nearly all colleges grant session interns a full semester of 15 credit hours for participation in the program and I encourage students of any major to apply," Assemblyman Jim Hayes, R-Amherst, said. The Assembly Intern Committee

will award a $4,140 stipend to each participant in the internship program which runs from Jan. 2 through May 9, 2007. Applications are accepted through mid-October. Applicants must be matriculated in a college degree program, be in good academic standing and receive a positive recommendation from their campus liaison.

The Graduate Internship provides full-time research or policy analysis positions with Assembly leaders, committee and research staffs. A $11,500 stipend is awarded during the January to May internship.

Completed applications must be mailed to the Assembly Intern Office no later than Nov. 1.

Graduate applicants must be in or have recently completed a graduate degree program. Applicants should also possess excellent research skills and have a strong interest in state government and the legislative process.

For more information and an application packet, contact Hayes' district office at 634-1895 or via e-mail at hayesj@assembly. state. ny. us.
