CONGRATULATIONS - Approximately 20 teachers, staff and parent volunteers completed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training at St. Benedict School in Eggertsville. Madison McCarthy Cardiac Care Coalition for Children donated an AED machine to the school. The training course was part of the requirement for installation of the machine. The not-for-profit organization was started in 2001 in memory of 5-year-old Madison Lee McCarthy, who went into cardiac arrest that year at a Southtowns Catholic school. MMCCCC also donated funds to Ryan's Hope Foundation, which was formed in December 2002 after 11-year-old Ryan Markel drowned during swim class at a school in Depew.
