Buffalo In-Line Hockey Group began the 2006 fall/winter season with an Iron Man Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23 and crowned "Toast" as Iron Man champs.
An Iron Man Tounament is 3 on 3 hockey with a goalkeeper and no subs. The winners received a tough challenge in the finals against "The Stars" led by Amherst's Pat Smith. With about four minutes left in the championship game, Toast, captained by Tonawanda's Justin Swan, saw Cheektowaga's Scott McLaughlin score to give his team a 3-2 lead.
With about 75 seconds left, Anderson sealed the fate of The Stars when he made a save off the knob of his goalie stick. Amherst's Dan Brown moved the puck out of the zone and the team held on for the win.
BIHG is the premier youth in-line hockey league in Erie County and plays every Saturday morning in two age groups at the EPIC Center on Wehrle Drive in Lancaster. New players are always welcome.
