East girls swimming opens season 2-0

Williamsville East girls swimming opened its defense of the ECIC Division II title with wins at Iroquois, 63-38 and Starpoint, 109-76, last week.

Double winners for East against Starpoint were senior Jennifer Anthone (200-yard freestyle, 2:00.59; 100 free, 55.15), junior Janelle Munroe (200 IM, 220.38, broke own school record in 100 back, 102.81), and freshman Bailey

Woodling (50 free, 25.41; 100 butterfly, 101.36). East also won all three relays: 200 medleyMunroe, Ostanski, Kelsey Bradbury, Woodling, 157.72; 200 free Anthone, Tori Mayer, Ostanski, Woodling, 146.01; and 400 freeAnthone, Munroe, Bradbury, Mayer, 351.34.

East coach Mike Doerfler said Mayer swam a personal best 204.80 to place second in the 200 free and Ostanski won the 100 breast with a personal best time of 118.40.

Doerfler also said Taylor Castle and Jessica McNulty helped East win valuable points in diving.

Against Iroquois, Ostanski swan personal best swims in the 100 free (103.3) and at the time, the 100 breast (118.91). Mayer swam personal best times in the 200 IM (226.72) and 100 fly (105.85).

At a quad meet at Clarence earlier this season, East's 400 free relay of Munroe, Woodling, Mayer and Anthone set a school record with a time of 345.20. The old record was 345.23.

East swam at Maryvale Tuesday but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. They host Amherst at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29 at Transit Middle School.
