Eric Lawrence had a career day at Kenmore East on Saturday.

The Sweet Home junior touched the football five times, accounted for 207 total yards, and scored four touchdowns as the Panthers soundly defeated the Bulldogs, 41-14.

Lawrence rushed three times for 137 yards and scored touchdowns of 59-, 9-, and 69 yards. He also caught two passes for 70 yards, including a 10-yard strike from Ian Goree.

Marcus Johnson rushed 10 times for 105 yards and scored two first quarter touchdowns.

"Our kids played well both running and passing," said Sweet Home coach John Faller. "We executed pretty well. We had a lot of penalties in the second half, especially the fourth quarter, which kind of ran the game down a little bit. But we did what we wanted to do."

The Panthers led 21-0 at halftime then Lawrence added two touchdowns in the third quarter to put Sweet Home ahead 34-0. One of Lawrence's third quarter scores came from a Steve Phillips fumble recovery.

"We knew the outcome (once we were up 34-0)," said Faller. "It was a matter of staying focused and playing."

Because Sweet Home saw success running, Goree only needed to complete 5-of-7 passes for 95 yards, including a touchdown and interception. The Sweet Home offense finished with 390 yards on only 35 plays but would have been well over 400 if not for penalties, Faller said. Sweet Home was also without

running back Allen Douglas for the second straight game. Douglas is still suffering from a high ankle sprain.

"He's running again," said Faller. "Now it's just a matter of when he thinks he can go full steam."

Kenmore East quarterback Jon Anthony Wiltberger completed 22-of-38 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Sweet Home (3-1, 2-1) looks to go 3-1 in league play when they travel to Williamsville South for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff Friday.
