Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Haas

Mary and Jerry Haas of East Amherst celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass and a blessing at St. Mary's Church in Swormville.

A reception and dinner was held during which Mary put on her wedding gown and entered the room to the tune of "Here Comes the Bride." She bought the gown in 1956 for $35 and her eldest daughter wore the gown at her own wedding 25 years ago.

Jerry and Mary were married on Sept. 1, 1956 at St. Mary's Church and are now Eucharistic Ministers there.

They are both retired, but Jerry still does odd jobs and Mary volunteers regularly at Heathwood Health Care in Williamsville.

The couple has three children and nine grandchildren.
