Oktoberfest Oktoberfest will be celebrated German-style beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at Main and Transit Fire Station No. 1, 6777 Main St., in Williamsville. The event will feature German Food from The Rose Garden, a beer tent and musical entertainment by The Frankfurters on Friday and The Auslanders and Runaway Train on Saturday. There will also be a firematic tournament, a draw for fire companies from across New York State. Ten fire companies will compete against each other in an "Oktoberfest Invitational" which will begin promptly at 2 p.m. Saturday. The "Big 8" event will feature a bucket brigade, motor pump, three-man ladder and more. Cash prizes will be given to competition winners. The event will benefit The Jolly Boys of Williamsville, which donates scholarships to local high school seniors who spend time giving back to the community. Oktoberfest is co-sponsored by The Rotary Club of Williamsville," which also donates money to local clubs and organizations. All proceeds will benefit these two organizations. "It's a shorter version of Old Home Days," said Jim Parcival of the Rotary Club, noting that the Oktoberfest continues until 11 p.m. both nights and will be set up by the pavilion. "The money goes right back to the community," Parcival added. The event costs $5 and is free to children younger than 12. e-mail: JSchmelzer@beenews.com |
