Windermere to host meetings Windermere Boulevard Elementary School will host two meetings in the near future. Windermere Elementary, at 291 Windermere Blvd. in Amherst, is the site for a meeting at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 28 regarding the future Eggertsville Youth and Community Center, and a probable Amherst Town Board meeting at 7 p.m. Wed. Oct. 18. The new youth and community center will be located at 4110 Bailey Ave. That meeting is open to town officials, service club officers and other stakeholders. A team of officials from the Town of Amherst, Amherst Central School District and Boys and Girls Clubs of Buffalo will be available to answer questions about the facility. A tour of the future site will also be taken. "This is a wonderful opportunity to orient officials and service organizations to the needs of children and families in the Eggertsville Community," said Paul Wietig, Amherst Central's acting superintendent. The site is scheduled to open in early 2007. Those interested in attending the meeting or seeking more information, should call the Amherst Youth Board at 631-7215. Public safety in Eggertsville will be the main issue at the Amherst Town Board meeting. Wietig said he received the request for Windermere from Council Member Daniel Ward. "I checked with the appointment secretary at Town Hall and (have) given them the permit to fill it out," said Wietig. "I haven't heard any more news." A Town Board meeting was held in the spring at Windermere. "The Town Board tries to move a meeting a couple times a year to different venues, so that was a regular Town Board meeting," said Wietig. "We all take our turns hosting one throughout the year." In other matters, Wietig agreed to chair the process of identifying a replacement for Smallwood Drive Principal Barbara Marotto. Marotto is scheduled to retire effective July 1, 2007. Wietig said he would be submitting a draft of concepts to the board in the near future. |
