UNDERCOVER - While working at the Bee Newspapers for the past three years, one question is asked of me time and time again: Are you a student? Without fail, when I visit a school I am asked for my hall pass or when at meetings, if my government class sheet should be signed. I'm sure many of you are reading this and saying, "Don't complain that you look young." But I find it humorous that it has been seven years since I graduated from Iroquois High School, and I am still being mistaken for a student. It happened again this school year. When I approached a member of the Board of Education at a recent meeting, I was asked if I needed my paper signed for a class. I always make sure to laugh and explain who I am. OPEN HOUSE - Christ the King School will hold its open house from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the school, 2 Lamarck Drive. The Catholic elementary school has students in pre-k through eighth grade. Principal JoAnn Mikulec and the school's staff will be on hand to answer questions. For more information, call 839-4073, ext. 301. QUITE A LIFE - ElderWood will celebrate National Centenarians Day on Friday, Sept. 22 by honoring residents of the ElderWood Village at Oakwood in Amherst who are 100 years old and older. Being honored at Oakwood are: Leita Groth, 102; Leora Lancto, 103 on Sept. 22; Clara Klopf, 102; and Violet Steeber, 102. Also being recognized are Hazel DeBlasis, 101, a resident of Wedgewood in Eggertsville, and Evelyn Fuerst, 103, and Ruth Border, 102, residents of Heathwood on Hopkins Road. |
