The Buffalo Bills scored one of the quickest touchdowns in NFLhistory on London Fletcher-Baker's fumble recovery Sunday, but it wasn't enough to propel the Bills past the AFC East juggernaut New England Patriots. Buffalo lost, 19-17.
Now the Bills turn their attention to the archrival Miami Dolphins for a Week Two showdown of 0-1 teams. Both quarterbacks, J.P. Losman (Buffalo) and Daunte Culpepper (Miami), will look to improve on their individual performances. Losman was 15 of 23 for 164 yards, while Culpepper was 18 of 37 for 262 yards and two interceptions.
While the Bills showed signs of marked improvement in the season opener and Miami looked terrible in its loss to Pittsburgh, I'm still not ready to change my mind about this week's game. If this game were played in Buffalo, I probably would go with the Bills, but Miami will pull out the win at home. - Miami 20, Buffalo 17. Matt Krueger, Sports Reporter (1-0)
I was actually fairly impressed with the Bills' efforts in the opener, and if the starting defense can get healthy and make a few minor adjustments, I think Miami will be in trouble. If the Bills can sharpen their execution, cut down on the costly penalties, and J.P. Losman can play with the same poise he did (for the most part) in game one, they have a good shot at squishing the fish. - Buffalo 24, Miami 20. Jason Nadolinski, Sports Reporter (1-0)
The Bills played inspired football, but could not close out the Patriots. I think if they can learn how to finish
games they will see success. The Bills showed a ton of potential in Week One but I don't see them winning in Week Two. - Miami 20, Buffalo 14. Patrick Nagy, Sports Reporter (1-0)
The Bills put up a valiant effort in Week One, and I think it is going to pay dividends in Week Two against Miami. Daunte Culpepper looked like a broken down quarterback and a shell of the player he was two seasons ago. His lack of mobility and the speed on the Bills' defense is an advantage to Buffalo. As long as they
can contain Miami running back Ronnie Brown, the Bills have a good chance of winning the game. - Buffalo 24, Miami 17. Chris Gordon, Orchard Park Editor (1-0)
I really thought Buffalo had it this past week, but as usual, the Bills couldn't bring home the win. Is it that they get tired by the fourth quarter, or do they get too confident? I don't know, but they need to work on their ability to stay in the lead. In this week's game against the Miami Dolphins, I think Buffalo will find a way to "squish the fish." - Buffalo 17, Miami 10. Jill Schmelzer, Lifestyles Coordinator (1-0)
Despite a questionable call to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking the field goal, the Bills looked better than anyone would have guessed against the Patriots. The team played smart and kept it simple, and best yet, no trick plays. Miami, and more notably Dante Culpepper, fell apart in their opener against Pittsburgh. The Dolphins are overrated and the Bills are underrated. - Buffalo 20, Miami 14. Ken Bartolotta, Lifestyles Reporter (1-0)
A few costly penalties - like an illegal block on the back by tight end Robert Royal on New England cornerback Asante Samuel on a much -needed third down conversion pass to wide receiver Peerless Price - were the types of errors that need to be fixed if the Bills have any playoff aspirations. Look for Losman and crew to start out slow against the Dolphins, but pull out a win. - Buffalo 17, Miami, 13. Nick Primerano, Ken-Ton Editor (0-1)
