Out of 344 applicants across the country, only 92 facilities received Step I recognition, and ElderWood Health Care at Oakwood is the only facility in New York State. In addition, ElderWood Health Care at Wedgewood, in Eggertsville, became one of only two New York State long-term health care facilities to earn Step II AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards. Of 71 applications from across the country, only 12 facilities earned Step II awards. The Quality Awards are part of the AHCA/NCAL's Quality First initiative, a covenant for healthy, affordable and ethical long-term care. The three-tiered Quality Award program encourages facilities to submit to progressively more in-depth examination of quality controls in order to be considered in following years for further recognition. Several ElderWood facilities have previously achieved Step I and Step II awards. A ceremony for award recipients will be held during the AHCA/NCAL's annual convention and exposition in October.
