BMW driver doesn't pay for gasoline

(Editors note: The Bee's police blotter is a sampling of unusual, sometimes humorous calls received by the police department. It is not intended to be a complete record of all incidents reported.)

Friday, Aug. 25

+ Fireworks were thrown onto the porch of a private street.

 Two complainants called about a man standing in traffic on Crosspoint Parkway. They said he was almost hit by oncoming traffic.

 A Niagara Falls Boulevard store reported that a teenage boy was taking valve steam caps and putting them into his pocket.

 A person driving a blue BMW left without paying for $51.02 in gasoline from a Maple Road station.

 Screaming was reported from a Meyer Road apartment. Police reported that there was no problem - it was the resident playing a video game.

 Police responded to Main Street where store security were chasing an elderly man who had stolen ham and meat. The items were recovered.

Saturday, Aug. 26

 A motorist on Interstate 290 reported that a car with four teens was trying to run the complainant off the road.

 A group of youths were throwing apples at the complainant's house on Bucyrus Drive. They were advised and cleaned up the mess.

 An Edgewater Drive resident reported that two male teens were going door to door possibly trying to sell something, but the complainant couldn't understand them because of their accents.

 Two males trying to sell candy bars started threatening customers on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Sunday, Aug, 27

 Two males were reportedly drinking on the roof of a building on American Campus Drive.

 An Allenhurst Road resident complained that two teenage boys, who don't live with her, were sitting on her front porch. They were advised to stay on their own stoop.

 A total of $6 dollars was taken from an unlocked vehicle on Smallwood Drive.

 A suspicious man was reported on Main Street because he was wearing baggy denim clothes, a hat and singing to himself. Police found no problem; he was just walking home.

 A car-block detox drink was stolen from a store on Main Street.

 Police responded to Main Street for a welfare check. One male was passed out on a front lawn, and the other was milling around dressed in a sweatshirt and boxers near the library. Both appeared intoxicated.

Monday, Aug. 28

 An Amherstdale Road resident requested a police officer respond after youths in a sport utility vehicle threw their garbage into the street.

 An injured bird was stuck in a gas pump on Hopkins Road.

 A male was reported for stealing a backpack, batting gloves and shotgun shells from a store on Transit Road.

 An odor, described as smelling like a marijuana party, was reported on Sweet Home Road. Police determined it was wood being burned.

Tuesday, Aug. 29

 A couch and cones were found in the roadway on Getzville Road. The complainant moved them to the shoulder.

 A Hamilton Drive resident reported there was a bat in the house, and she had taken her two children outside. The bat was taken into custody and the complainant advised to follow up with the county health department.

 A man fishing with his son reported finding four dead ducks and one sick/dying duck on Northwood Drive. A representative for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said ducks get botulism this time of year and was probably the reason they are dying.

 A woman called police because her daughter was babysitting and said there were kids in front of the house waking up the baby. The brother handled the problem.

 Police were called to Sunmist Square by a resident who was upset that kids were outside with squirt guns. He wanted them removed.

 Police spoke with three males, all with the same last name, who were ringing doorbells and looking in mailboxes on Eggert Road.

Wednesday, Aug. 30

 Gasoline or lighter fluid was poured on a chair in the rear breezeway of a Capen Boulevard residence.

 A North Westfield Road resident complained that his neighbor was burning his own shed and had a hose to try and keep the flames down.

 A construction site on Transit Road reported having copper pipes and other items stolen from the site's trailer.

 Criminal mischief was reported on Main Street when a man wearing a helmet and displaying tattoos left a large imprint of his foot on the complainant's vehicle. The suspect left on a bike.

 A Sheridan Drive business had two doors stolen off a Jeep parked in the parking lot. They were valued at $5,000.
