Drive-by shooting suspected in Eggertsville

Several shots were fired into a home at 153 Callodine Ave. at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, and initial reports indicate it might have been a drive-by shooting.

A couple and their 1-year-old child were sleeping in the upstairs of the home when at least five bullets were shot directly into the first floor. Several neighbors called 911 stating

they heard gunshots. Amherst police responded in about a minute, Assistant Chief John Askey said.

Five shells were recovered outside the home, landing in a pattern that suggests they may have been shot from a moving vehicle. One witness reported seeing a dark-colored sedan in the area around the time of the shooting.

All three people in the home were uninjured, although the house was damaged by the bullets, which struck walls, windows, furnishings and light fixtures.

Askey said there is no motive at this time, and the investigation continues. At least one bullet has been recovered for examination.
