Studio Arena features class and sass

A musical sensation, "3 Mo' Divas," opens Studio Arena Theatre's 2006-2007 season with previews beginning Friday, Sept. 1.

Due to the extraordinary vocal demands of the production, writer/director Marion J. Caffey has assembled a double cast.

The divas include Gretha Boston, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Laurice Lanier, Jamet Pittman and DeVonna Lawrence.

During each performance, the Divas will wow audiences with a mastery of opera, Broadway, jazz, blues, soul, spirituals, gospel and pop, supported by six versatile musicians.

A winner of the 2004 Los Angeles Times' Critics Choice award, "3 Mo' Divas" has everything a music lover could want: from Bach to Cole Porter, Gershwin to Cab Calloway, and Duke Ellington to the Supremes.

Preview performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1 and 2; 7 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday, Sept. 3 and 5; 7:30 p.m. Wednes day, Sept. 6; and 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7. Opening night is at 8 p.m. Friday,

Sept. 8, and runs through Oct. 1. Regular performance times are 2 and 7 p.m. Sundays, 7 p.m. Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 4 and 8 p.m. Saturdays.
