Mohan's residence inspected for code compliance Supervisor Satish Mohan could soon be squared away with the Town of Amherst Building Department. Controversy surrounded Mohan when a claim was made he told a contractor not to seek permits for a friend's home. That prompted questions about his own home on Viscount Drive where he also operates businesses. Building Commissioner Tom Ketchum said inspectors had an appointment to tour Mohan's house on Tuesday to determine if a certificate of compliance could be given to Mohan. "The inspectors will determine if there are issues with the construction; if there are none they will (grant) a certificate of compliance," he said Monday. He added that since questions about Mohan have come about, the supervisor has followed appropriate permit requests and paid the fees. As of Monday, plumbing and electric permits had been paid for and issued. The meeting on Tuesday was to inspect the plumbing, electrical and building work within the residence. Ketchum said that should any problems be found with the work where a code is being violated then Mohan would be advised on how to bring the house up to code. Mohan said the permits were late but have been taken care of. In other building news, Ketchum said figures released last week stating that permit fees would come in under budget could be wrong. "We had a slow start in the beginning of the year, but this last month we made up a lot of ground," he said. "Permits to Millard Fillmore bumped us up." He added that the permits are where they should be, but he can't guarantee how the remainder of the year will progress. |
