Airport enforces new passenger restrictions In further attempts to tighten security in light of London's alleged terrorist plot, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has issued new restrictions for airplane passengers. Air travelers may not have liquids or gels of any size at the screening checkpoint in their carry-on luggage. This includes beverages, shampoo, perfume, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and items of similar consistency. These restricted items are allowed to be packed in luggage that will be checked with the airline. Passengers may have baby formula or breast milk when traveling with a baby or small child. Prescription medicine must have a name matching the passenger's ticket. Insulin and other non-prescription medicines are allowed, if essential. Beverages purchased after security screenings must be consumed before boarding. Passengers should arrive at the terminal a minimum of 90 minutes prior to boarding. As a result of the national threat level being elevated to orange, which mandates no parking directly in front of the terminal, the Buffalo Niagara International Airport has opened a cell phone lot at their Holtz Road Park & Ride, where people can wait to receive a cell phone call from a passenger waiting to be picked up curbside in front of the terminal. The immediate dropping off and picking up of passengers in front of the terminal is still permitted, but no parking there is allowed. Additionally, all of the airport parking lots offer free parking for the first 30 minutes or less. |
