Mustangs 10U win Canandaigua Tournament

The Mathewson McCarthy Mustangs 10U Mustangs won the Canandaigua Tournament held July 28-30. The Mathewson McCarthy 10U Mustangs used quality pitching, clutch hitting, and solid defense to win the Canandaigua Tournament held July 28-30.

A tireless team effort left the Mustangs undefeated. The 5-0 Mustangs out scored their opponents, 61-6.

The championship game proved to be nothing less than a complete team effort as the Mustangs beat Ithaca, 24-0. Every Mustang player had at least one hit and one run during the 23-hit attack.

With the championship game hanging in the balance, the Mustangs came to play and won game four, 14-1. The defense shined with Nick Swain behind the plate, Dan Lumadue on third base and Steve Zaprowski on second. Timely hitting from Mike Keenehan and Justin Bailey, who both went 2 for 2, played a key role in the team's victory.

Saturday afternoon's game proved to be exciting with an 11-1 victory over Geneseo.

The Mustangs rode the powerful bats of Damien Powers (4 for 4), Brenden Chambers (3 for 4), and Matt Whiting (3 for 3). Clinching this game left the Mustangs only one game away from the championship.

Early Saturday morning, the Mustangs faced tournament host Canandaigua. The pitching trio (Mike Keenehan, Chris Ossa, and Powers) again proved dominant in leading the team to an 8-3 victory. Powers' two-run home run in the first set the pace. Tyler Utz and Ossa both went for 3 in helping the offensive assault.

Game One was held on Friday, July 28 between the Mustangs and West Elmira. The strong arms of pitchers Keenehan, Ossa, and Powers aided in the victory.

Powers struck out six over the last two innings in a dominant effort. While the defense proved to be strong, the offense was just as tough. Austin Maciok led the offense, going 2 for 2 with one run scored. Powers went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
