The Lou Gehrig Indians won the 'AAAA' championship on Sunday, July 30 after defeating the Mets, 14-9. Both teams played championship baseball.
The Mets provided some very exciting plays. Pitcher Jake Spring allowed only two runs and made an impressive single-handed double play to end the first inning. Nick Christiano scored three of the Mets' nine runs with his speed and heads up base running.
The Indians had hot bats with Conner Borasky, Hudson Weil, Jason Cohen, Matt Mernan, and Zack Morrison all hitting for extra bases. Great fielding was a key to holding the Mets to only nine runs. Quinn Keenan made an impressive backhanded grab at first base to secure a critical out. Mitchell Kozlowski had a major league play from second when he almost threw a runner out after falling to his knees. Michael Salmon and Dan DiBlasi's strong play in the field prevented the Mets from running the bases.
Jason Cohen, with Javier Diaz catching, were able to hold the Mets to two runs in the final two innings, securing the Indians' championship.
