.The town is trying its best to thwart Wal-Mart from building in an area already zoned for commercial development because of wetlands and possible flooding. Now they want to change the zoning to residential so they can put up a housing development. I guess it's okay to put up housing on wetlands. Could it be that some interests offer kickbacks to politicians while others do?

.Amherst Supervisor Satish Mohan should not be accepting credit from the media for not accepting a

paycheck from both SUNY at Buffalo and the Town of Amherst during January and February. After all, Mohan campaigned on the basis wide and far that he would do it for $1 per year. He is looking to get credit for not taking a double dip paycheck with SUNY at Buffalo and the Town of Amherst.

.The Amherst Youth Department has more tentacles than an octopus. How many youth centers do we need? Even if the church was given to the town, how much would it cost to restore it, heat it, maintain it, staff it? It's not a good time to add things to the budget after you've cut other departments to the bone for the last few years. I think the board should pass on this one; maybe some other time when things are better economically.

.To the residents of the Town of Amherst and surrounding communities, it's time to take pride in our community. Let's bring in our garbage cans on time, let's pick up the garbage around, let's restrain our garbage. Tying bags makes a big difference than having the garbage fly all over the place. If there is garbage in your yard, pick it up. Pizza boxes are not recyclable; how about if you flatten them, fold them half, fold them in half again and put in a small plastic grocery bag and tie it off. Let's cleanup our community before the rats invade us; I have one vote here for garbage totes.

.I'm deeply disappointed that Supervisor Mohan wants to create a finance department for the Town of Amherst. We elected him hoping he would get rid of bureaucracy and now he wants to add another layer to what we have. It's perfectly fine the way it is. I don't know why he would want to do that unless he's going to start acting like Joel Giambra. We don't need another king; we need someone who is a manager and someone who does his job responsibly. Adding another layer of bureaucracy just adds more money to taxpayers, and that's not what we elected that man for.

.The airport flight pattern changes with planes flying low over Williamsville and Snyder residential areas means constant noise and rumbling from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. It will be worse this summer when windows are open and folks are outdoors. Conversation is impossible. What assurance do we have that this change is temporary?

.I would like to recommend Dr. Mohan to run for county executive after he cleans up the deficit spending in the Town of Amherst. It takes a man of courage and wisdom, such as Dr. Mohan, to be a great county executive. Joel Giambra did great damage to Erie County, which will take generations to clean up. Republican Supervisor Mohan seems to be the only person who has the guts, courage and knowledge to reduce deficit spending; he's wise and he's a gentlemen.

.Give credit where credit is due. Last summer I overheard a very heated conversation with regards to The Amherst Bee sports coverage. It was stated The Bee favored a certain team, giving them larger write-ups and pictures than others, so I decided to pay close attention to the fall and winter sports coverage and found it to be very fair. I did not come up with one individual team or organization that I felt was being favored. Keep up the good work and have a wonderful spring season.

.I have a concern that I wish Dr. Mohan would address. During the campaign, he said he was going to do something about sinking homes. Well, I have a sinking home, and since he's been elected,

I haven't noticed him doing one thing for us. I wonder if he's just another politician speaking out of both sides of his mouth. I need help, and so do other people like me. Why aren't you helping us, Dr. Mohan? We need the money.

.I would like to congratulate the Sweet Home High School Basketball team on going to the state finals. I know it takes hours of commitment from all the players to achieve what they have achieved. You all did a great job, guys, and we are so proud that you represented not only the Sweet Home School District but all Amherst players in general. Thank you for a great year, and you are Number 1 in our life!

.The Williamsville School Board had better go back to the drawing board. With the new state budget, the school district got extra aid dollars but in Williamsville these board members only see dollar signs. More cuts, more school days and teachers holding conference days on their own time.

.The Amherst Bee needs to stop with the lengthy editorials bashing Satish Mohan. We don't need another biased newspaper; stick to reporting the news.

.The idea to do away with the present Williamsville Library is entirely wrong! This historic beautiful little building adds so much to the atmosphere in the village that it should definitely remain where it is. Let's not get carried away with some of these extreme ideas.
