Construction of a new archive storage facility recently started at the State University of New York at Buffalo’s Amherst campus.

The building, being developed and built by Savarino Construction Services Corp. of Williamsville, will be located at 3850 Rensch Road.

It will be owned by Buffalo Archives LLC, a subsidiary of Savarino Construction and leased to UB.

The 18,000 square foot facility will be about 40 feet tall and will contain all of UB’s library’s periodicals and documents from 1985 and earlier. It will also be home to state of the art document storage and retrieval and climate control systems; as well as a redundant emergency computer facility for the university.

The cost of the project is $5 million and plans allow for a future 5,000 square foot addition.

The project is being financed through M&T Bank and Royal Net Lease LLC. It was designed by architecture firm Carmina & Wood of Buffalo.

It is expected to be completed by June 2006.
