QB, receiver chemistry dates back to childhood
      The chemistry on the football field between quarterback Joe Licata and receiver Phil Stasiak did not start at Williamsville South. “It all started when we were 5 years old,” said Stasiak. “We were neighbors. We lived three houses down from each other. One day he told me to come out and play catch. We have good chemistry.”

Spartans look to build on late-season success
      Williamsville North started the 2009 football season mired in a long losing streak dating back to Sept. 2007 but by the time the season ended, they had qualified for the Section VI Class AA Federation playoffs. Spartans coach Mike Mammoliti is hoping how the team played at the end of last season — won four of their last six games — carries over into this fall.

Air Force tames Rams
Williamsville Junior Football
      The Williamsville Junior Football team defeated the Lew-Port Rams, 54-18, on Saturday afternoon. After giving up an early touchdown, the Air Force team never looked back. Center Nick Galluzzo anchored the offensive line. Quarterback Brendan Wynia completed 4-of-6 passes with one TD and four extra point conversions to lead the offensive attack.

House league registration open; travel team tryouts slated
Amherst Soccer Association
      Registration is open for the Amherst Soccer Association house league. Play begins Sept. 11. The house league is open to age groups U6 through U14 plus co-ed high school. U6 age group meets for six Saturday mornings. For U8 and up, practices are held during the week, as set by your coach.

      The Women’s Buffalo District Golf Association will be hosting a 75th anniversary tournament for current and recent members, past officers and past champions today at Westwood Country Club, 772 North Forest Road, Williamsville. Golf is slated for 2 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.

      Coming into the 2009 season, only seven Amherst Central football players had varsity experience. A much more seasoned and smaller Tigers team — 27 on the roster — enters the 2010 season looking to improve on last year’s 3-6 finish.

North Amherst Fire Co. wins softball title
      North Amherst Fire Co. won the 2010 Firemen’s Softball League softball title but unlike last year’s undefeated season and championship, the team had an auspicious start. The team lost two of its first three games to Ellicott Creek and Clarence Center and also fell to Clarence on June 18.

      Newly acquired Youngstown Phantom Hockey defenseman Chris Bradley, a Williamsville resident, played for the USA Under 18 Select team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament Aug. 7 to 14 in Piestany, Slovakia.

Sandlot Spartans rally for tourney crown
      Patrick Stein’s two-run walk-off home run lifted the Sandlot Spartans to a 11-9 victory over Lockport in the championship game of the North Tonawanda National Little League Classic held Aug. 5 and 7-8. Stein’s blast culminated a tournament where Sandlot overcame a late-inning deficit in each of its five games.

Soccer Club sets registration for ‘11 season
      The Clarence Soccer Club’s travel program is gearing up to hold registration for its 2011 season squads. The program, open to residents of Clarence or Clarence Schools attendees born between August 1, 1991, and July 31, 2003, will hold in-person registration from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Town Park Clubhouse on Main St.
